12 Keyboard Shortcuts all Mac users should know
I had a bit of trouble picking just 10 of the keyboard shortcuts on a Mac that I thought were the most useful, so I changed it to 12. I didn’t want the list to be too long, but I couldn’t get it any shorter so here it is:
- CMD + A – Select all.
-
CMD + C – Copy selected item/text to the clipboard.
-
CMD + X – Cut the selected item/text to the clipboard.
-
CMD + V – Paste the contents of the clipboard.
-
CMD + P – Print – brings up the print dialogue box.
-
CMD + E – Eject (i.e CD/DVD).
-
Shift + CMD + N – New folder.
-
CMD + W – Close selected window.
-
CMD + Z - Undo/Redo.
-
Option + Shift + CMD + Esc (Hold for 3 seconds) – Force quit of front most application.
-
Shift + CTRL +CMD + 3 – Capture screen to clipboard. See How to take a screenshot on a Mac.
-
CMD + S – Save the current file.
Note: Option key is the "alt" key.
I hope you find these shortcuts useful; it can take a little time to learn the shortcuts but pays dividends in the long run.
