Got a BT Business Hub? You could now be providing a BT Hotspot!
If you’ve got a BT Business Hub you could unknowingly be sharing your internet access with the general public!
BT has begun reconfiguring BT Business Hubs so that they provide public wireless internet access unless you have opted out.
Under the current scheme 20,000 businesses have already had their BT Business hubs converted with a further 200,000 planned.
The BT press release claims "Free BT public wi-fi hotspot for every business broadband customer", proudly suggesting that "Hub owners buy BT Openzone access vouchers ... and can choose to pass the vouchers to their customers or resell the prime business service and add revenue", So you can charge visitors to your office for using the wireless or give them away and pay twice for the bandwidth!
By way of compensation to businesses for sharing their bandwidth all businesses will be entered into a competition to win an iPod touch (8GB) assuming you haven’t opted out and disabled the BT Hotspot – well that makes it all ok then, doesn’t it.
