Microsoft Confirms October Release for Windows 8
There have been rumors of an autumn release date before but today is the first time that Microsoft have confirmed an October general release date for Windows 8 and an August release date for RTM (Release to Manufacturing).
The information was confirmed by Tami Reller, the Windows Chief Marketing Officer. She confirmed that Retail PC’s with Windows 8 and upgrades would be available by the end of October.
Finally Tami announced that Windows 7 is the best selling operating system of all time with more than 630 million copies sold and more than 50% of enterprise desktops running Windows 7.
Of course this doesn’t mean that the new Microsoft Surface, which runs Windows 8 will be available at the same time but it is a prerequisite. There was no concrete information released on Microsoft Surface other than that Microsoft expects other hardware manufacturers to also be releasing Windows 8 tablets.
Tami was speaking at the WPC (Worldwide Partner Conference) to an audience of IT Support companies from around the world.
