Windows 7 Released This Month
As we’re sure you’ve heard, the new Microsoft operating system - Windows 7 - is released this month. There’s not enough space to list everything new and improved about Windows 7, so here are a few features we really like.
Speed
Below is a table of the relative speeds it will take Windows 7 to complete certain tasks compared to Windows Vista. These tests were run on identical laptops.
| Task | Vista | Windows 7 |
| Come out of hibernation | 43 seconds | 18 seconds |
| Open Internet Explorer | 3 seconds | 1 second |
| Open Word 2007 | 4 seconds | 2 seconds |
| Open Excel 2007 | 3 seconds | 2 seconds |
| Time to hibernate | 45 seconds | 21 seconds |
| Time to boot (start up) | 60 seconds | 40 seconds |
Simplicity
Windows 7 is designed to be understated. Its minimalist style takes a step away from the flashiness of Vista, and works in the background, allowing you to concentrate on your work rather than Windows itself.
For example, the taskbar has been redesigned so Quick Start icons and running tasks have been grouped into one thus looking neater and allowing for more space on the screen.
Better for Roaming
For those of you who use your laptop on the move or in a wireless office, Windows 7 is far better at dealing with and switching between wireless networks.
